Enjoy downtown living in The Slater

The Slater — a 22-storey condominium building by Broccolini — will bring downtown living to the heart of Ottawa’s business district.

The Slater will be located at 199 Slater St. near Bank Street and will be a mixed-use development incorporating both residential condo units and hotel rooms. It will contain 164 condo units and 148 hotel rooms. In a unique design, there will be both condo units and hotel rooms on each floor but they will be separated in that the condos will be on the front part of the building with the better view and the hotel rooms will be situated at the rear of the building. There will be separate corridors and lobbies and separate elevators for the two types of units.

Broccolini launched the project at the end of October with a pre-registration event and opened it up to the public a week ago. More than 60 of the condo units have been since snapped up and another two dozen have been reserved.

With a black-and-white exterior and an updated classic look so that it will blend in with existing buildings in the area, it will successfully mix old style with new elements.

“The Slater is a fresh take on the modernist buildings that dominate the immediate area, instantly integrating itself into the established fabric of the neighbourhood. With its forever relevant style based on logic, purity and proportion, it will be built in our time for all time,” said Michael Beach, director of planning, Broccolini.

He says the exterior of the building has been designed in such a way that it will “never date itself”.

He adds the podium of the building has been designed with human scale in mind as it integrates itself at sidewalk level. “It’s a style that people instantly feel comfortable with.”

Construction of The Slater is slated to begin in spring of 2013 with occupancy set for spring 2015.

Condo owners will enjoy the numerous attractions surrounding The Slater and the sophistication of the amenities within. The development will feature a fifth floor terrace, private screening room, games room complete with pool and poker tables, as well as a fully equipped gym with views of the city skyline.

Amenities abound nearby with all that the downtown lifestyle has to offer including entertainment, dining and nightlife. Walking to work in any of Ottawa’s many downtown office buildings will be a plus for many folks.

The condo units will range from 420-936 square feet for about $199,900-485,000.

There will be studio, one bedroom, one plus den, two bedroom, two plus den and three-bedroom units.

There will be ten penthouse units ranging from 824-1,578 square feet for about $457,000-910,000.

Indoor parking spots available to those purchasing the larger condo units will cost $35,000 each. Monthly condo fees will be approximately 48 cents per square foot.
